March 2005 - A Welcome Back!
The year has just begun and it is already packed with the Scouting
Spirit!
- January 11th Council Banquet - Council President John Martin gave a challenge
filled speech that set in motion the task of developing a stronger Council and with it
the districts. The event was highlighted by our very own Mark Williams receiving the
Silver Beaver. Congratulations Mark, it was definitely well deserved!
- February 11th Scouting For Food - This year we collected 2908lbs. of
food. Eight units with 102 Scouts and 85 Scouters participated. Thank you P86,! P137, P503,
P510, P438, T438, T191 and T192.
- February 18th District Banquet - The banquet was a great success and
great fun. 36 Wapahanians attend the banquet to honor the 2005 award recipients. District
Awards of Merit went to Melanie Thomas and Nathaniel Jones. Juan Palos received Unit
Commissioner of the Year. Cub Master of the Year went to Doug Bowers and Scout Master of
the Year went to Mark Williams. John Matthews was called out for Order of the Arrow. This
years' Wapaha Shining Stars were Lois Carol, John Norton, Frank Liedtke and Juan Palos.
Our DE, Miguel Cardenas, received his Woodbadge Beads. Congratulations and thank you to
all of you. Each of you help to make our district great! Thank you to Roy Ortega for
being our MC for the evening. A warm welcome to a former Wapahanian who returned for a
visit, Scott Fitzpatrick.
- February 24th Eagle Banquet - Wapaha was pleased to ac! knowledge the
2005 advancements to the rank of Eagle for Sean Noland, Justin Tidwell, James Bonneau,
William Sitters, Aaron Silva, Lewis Wright, Jared Escobar and Rupesh Parbhoo. You make
your District and Scouters within very proud.
- March 4th Commissioners College - Ward Thorp as the Dean presented 7
Wapaha Scouters with degrees and certificates. Nathaniel Jones received his Master of
Commissioner Science. Richard Poulin, Mike Hamlin, Juan Palos and Edgar Santiago all
received their Bachelor of Commissioner Science. Sandra Mendoza completed her basics on
her way to her Bachelors'. John Matthews received a certificate in continuing education
on his way to his Doctor of Commissioner Science. Ward Thorp, himself found the time to
participate in classes preparing to complete his Doctor of Commissioner Science.
- March 11th POWW Massing of Colors - Thank you to Scout and Scouters from
P86 and T86 for representing the BSA, ! Yucca Council, Wapaha District in the ceremony.
